Consideration EV consumers! Mazda CX-30 Electrical solidifies for Australia to compete with MG ZS EV, Hyundai Kona Electrical and Kia e-Niro with possible larger vary than MX-30 – automotive information

Is Mazda Australia considering adding an electric option to its popular CX-30 range in the near future?

According to a company insider, the move could come sooner rather than later as Mazda accelerates its electrification plans with three new electric vehicles (EVs) by 2025, while by 2030 its full range of products will have some sort of electrification.

Though no time or specification details were disclosed, our source said Australia “has a good chance” of seeing a CX-30 EV in the lifecycle of this current generation, which dates back to early 2020.

“We would like to offer it in Australia if it was available,” they said. “We would definitely shake hands for that.”

If the local outfit catches on, the news for Mazda fans will be even better as speculation has raged that it will be significant compared to the just released and closely related MX-30 Electric with a compact 35.5 kWh product Larger battery packs on the market could have greater range and wider application beyond the subway’s boundaries.

This is because the CX-30 Electric will be a mainstream model designed to rival MG ZS EV, Hyundai Kona Electric, and Kia e-Niro on the global stage, while the MX-30 Electric will be a more polished one Model is, Europe- and Japan-focused premium SUV coupe for commuting in the city. It’s supposed to help bring Mazda to market against luxury rivals like the Mercedes-Benz EQA and the Lexus UX 300e.

The trailblazer will be the CX-30 Electric, which was presented at the Shanghai Motor Show in China in April and will be launched there this year.

There is currently no further information on what electrical architecture this model is based on other than that it will be a battery-powered electric vehicle. The show car appears to have a much higher seating position and ground clearance than the regular version with a combustion engine (ICE).

However, our Mazda insider suggested that the CX-30 Electric we are likely to see in Australia and most other world markets is likely not sourced from China, as this is a very market-specific model and part of a common with Changan, one of the local partner of Mazda.

However, the Changan compound that helped develop the CX-30 Electric for China could result in a much larger battery pack than the MX-30 Electric’s 35.5 kWh unit. Although nothing has been confirmed yet, it has been reported overseas that the 48.3 kWh and massive 84.2 kWh battery packs offered in other Changan models could be considered for the high-flying Mazda SUV.

Alternatively, a completely different battery could be in development. We will inform you as soon as the information breaks.

Carried over to the CX-30, such battery sizes could double and even triple the WLTP range, from the so-called “real” 200 km of the MX-30 Electric on a single charge, giving Mazda a more effective weapon (and more bragging rights) against Kona Electric, e-Niro and others with over 450 km of skills.

It goes without saying that Mazda has been stung by widespread criticism of the MX-30 Electric’s approach of taking the lighter battery and lower environmental impact approach rather than simply aiming for the greatest range possible, and so may not want the same flaw do it again.

Introducing a second EV line as a more mainstream-oriented model like the CX-30 – with its sought-after SUV packaging, sleek styling, compact dimensions, and comparatively low mass – seems like a smart move for Mazda in light of the regular ICE -Powered version strong sales in key markets such as North America. It is currently in second place behind the best-selling CX-5 and is getting closer.

To freshen up, Mazda announced back in June that its electrified SkyActiv Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture will support five hybrid models (with Toyota’s hybrid technology), five plug-in hybrid models and the three aforementioned EVs between next year and 2025.

Will the CX-30 Electric be one of them? Don’t bet against it and – as usual – watch this room.
