Euston Basic Automotive Rally replaces Euston Rural Pastimes

A classic car event that replaced the Euston Pastimes event due to Covid restrictions was considered a great success by the organizers.

The classic car rally took place in Euston Park near Thetford on Sunday June 15, where about 500 people saw the cars, tractors and a sheepdog test.

The normal Euston Rural Pastimes event is attended by thousands of people for a much larger festival.

Euston Rural Pastime Event Committee Chairman Chris Fogden said it was great to see so many people enjoying the shortened day.

“It went very well,” said Mr. Fogden.

“Our main goal was to have a very nice day in these late Covid times.

“The event has been running since 1991 and it would have been very difficult to host an event with restrictive numbers.

“With the current rules, we also found it a bit risky to move the date.

“We took a risk-free route. We literally didn’t spend anything to hold this event, so if we had to close the gate, we could.”

“We had a classic car run and a tractor run and a sheepdog test.”

The organizers also used the event to raise money for the St. Nicholas Hospice.

“We were also hoping to raise some money and it looks like we raised over £ 3,000 for St. Nicholas Hospice,” Fogden said.

Mr Fogden said the committee was disappointed to cancel the normal event for a second year but understood that this was the right thing to do.

He added, “It’s tremendous hard work holding the normal event and this is the second year we haven’t been able to do it, but tremendous numbers of people are enjoying it and there is a huge army of people who are all volunteer we put it on.

“It would have been very difficult to hold the normal event even if the restrictions had been lifted.

“There were a lot of mixed feelings. It was very nice because we started out as a fairly small event in 1991 and it was nice to be back on such a scale where everyone was just having a good time and there was no massive pressure. ” Weeks before. “
