Summit for Arts + Automobiles: Downtown Artwork Competition and PAL Traditional Automotive Present on September 19th

Arts + Cars is back and the first major outdoor event at Downtown Summit since 2019. Rain or shine, the event is from 10am to 5pm on Sunday, September 19th. Summit Downtown, Inc. (SDI) is hosting an event that is fun for the whole family! From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. there is a juried art show with a lot of art and handicrafts for sale by artist sellers, the PAL Classic Car Show, live music from the 52nd Street band and other and children’s activities. These activities are jointly organized by the Summit Police Athletic League (PAL), SDI and the Visual Arts Center of NJ (VACNJ).
Window into art: Before September 19thNS even arrives Window into art will start on September 7thNS and runs until the end of the month. In coordination with Summit Public Art, SDI voted 20 artists with 20 companies in the city center for the art installation of Windows in Art. People are encouraged to stroll downtown and find the installations in the various shop windows. The list of companies can be found on the Summit Downtown website, here.
Arts festival: The Summit Downtown Art Festival is back! This is a juried, open-air art exhibition that has plenty of art and merchandise for sale, including jewelry, paintings, ceramics, clothing, and more. The Art Festival portion of Arts + Cars will be located on Springfield Avenue between Maple Street and Summit Avenue. The art festival is co-organized by New Jersey Center for Fine Arts.
Live entertainment: The day begins with Paul Fessock bringing music to the city center as a DJ and then taking the stage with his band for the live music of World of Rock. This is followed by the music of one of the most popular music groups from Summit Street Sounds, BBD Rhythm & Blues and then Headliner 52nd Street band covering the music of the great Billy Joel. The 52nd Street Band was a huge hit in 2019 and is back by popular demand. The stage is at the intersection of Beechwood Road and Springfield Ave. Special thanks to Investors Bank for sponsoring this great musical entertainment!
Classic car show: Organized by the Summit Police Athletic League (PAL), hundreds of classic cars are on display in Union Place and Lower Beechwood Road. For more information about the auto show or to enter your car, please visit gipfelpal.org.
Beer and vineyard: Bank Street parking lot will be converted into a beer and vineyard, selling wines donated by Cambridge Wines in downtown Summit and draft beers from Bull ‘n Bear Brewery. Open from 11:00 a.m., everyone is welcome, but only those with proof of age 21 and over will be given a wristband to purchase alcoholic beverages. Children’s painting and a corn hole will also be in the garden, and food trucks are on Bank Street. Beverage tickets can be purchased at the Lyric Park entrance on Beechwood Rd. and are only CASH.
Activities for children is provided by Summit YMCA and The Connection on Springfield Avenue between Beechwood Road & Maple Street. Also Krazy Kevin, who juggles on his unicycle, Shawn Yaney, the immensely popular balloon artist, FPC Car Racing and more!
Summit Farmers Market will be open from 8 am-1pm on the corner of DeForest Ave and Woodland Ave.
