Volvo US EVs, GMC Hummer EV Up Shut, Mannequin three Security, Toyota Scandal and Prius: In the present day’s Automobile Information

We take a close look at the GMC Hummer EV. Volvo plans that its US plant will only manufacture electric vehicles over the course of the decade. And is Toyota’s icon of social progress and the Greens the real victim of its political fundraising scandal? This and more here at Green Car Reports.

Though a report of Toyota donations for political purposes – namely, politicians who were anti-voting – was hard to miss on social media yesterday, we looked at the collateral damage: the Toyota Prius. A handful of celebrities and celebrities have very publicly dumped the once golden child of green vehicles. Is it the end of an era?

Volvo plans to make its US factory fully electric before its other plants – including those in Sweden, China and Belgium. In addition to the Polestar 3 and other future Volvos, the Charleston plant will initially build the Volvo XC90 in gasoline and EV versions, but will switch to making EVs later in the decade.

We looked at the GMC Hummer EV and the Hummer EV SUV and found these models to be as impressive as you might think when you consider all of your experience with Huumer’s earlier fuel-fluctuating models. As West Coast Editor Brian Wong put it, “You don’t buy a Hummer for its subtlety.” However, these were prototypes that have been kept on a very short leash and we’ll be excited to see how this model goes into production – in the case of the Pickup version very soon.

And over at The Car Connection, the Tesla Model 3 has earned back one of its safety awards, which was withdrawn, at least temporarily, last month. According to IIHS tests, the new camera-based system was found to be just as effective as the old radar system in preventing or mitigating accidents.
